Burt Myers tied Tim Brown for the most Modified wins at Bowman Gray, and John Holleman IV spun Jaxson Casper for the win in Twin 25’s.
What became a chaotic night of racing at The Madhouse started out tame. Myers won the pole for the first twin and led every lap in a race that saw just one caution early. It is Burt’s fourth win on the season, the most of any driver this year, but more importantly it is his 107th win in his career, tying him with Brown at the top of the all time wins list.
“[Slate] better get another one, hadn’t he?” Burt said in victory lane on FloRacing. “If it’s a Myers man, I’m tickled to death. I’m just glad to be standing here. We’re fortunate. God’s blessed his family, and we’re just taking it all in.”
Twin number two saw the top ten inverted, giving Casper the pole with Ethan Truell on his outside. Casper led lap one but a caution came out for dirt getting thrown across the track in turn four. With one lap complete, Casper restarted first, or at least was about to.
Before Casper got to the restart zone, Daniel Beeson got into his left rear, sending the leader spinning.
Since the green never came out, Casper kept his position. The next restart he got away clean and maintained the lead.
Casper had a healthy lead as Beeson started to fade. After ten laps were completed, a train had formed behind him. Riley Neal, Ethan Truell, and Holleman were faster than the No. 44 and looking for a way around Beeson. A check up in turn three saw Truell go spinning off the nose of Holleman.
That wouldn’t be the only time someone spun off of Superman’s bumper. On the next restart, Holleman was battling Neal for the runner-up spot. Holleman got to the inside of Neal going into turn three, but Neal pinched him into the wet grass. As Holleman slid back onto the speedway, Neal went spinning.
Officials ruled the accident Neal’s fault, so Holleman got to keep to second spot and Neal fell to the rear for spinning.
Casper got a great restart again and was able to open up a comfortable gap with just four laps to go. However, a caution came out as Casper was a few laps shy of his first career win. Neal had a mechanical failure and slowed to a stop drawing the yellow flag.
With four laps to go, Casper took the green flag once again. He got a good jump, but Holleman stayed close. Going into turn three, Holleman gave Casper a shot in the center of the corner, sending Casper spinning.
In the ensuing melee, Slate Myers dumped Truell and sent him spinning. After spinning 270 degrees, Truell was stopped right next to Slate. Truell got on the gas and pinched Slate against the wall while under caution, damaging both cars.
All the chaos moved Brown into second as the field bunched back up for a three lap shootout. Brown got a good restart and stayed right on the bumper of Holleman. He gave Holleman a bump in turn three on the last lap but it was not enough to shake Superman.
It is Holleman’s first win of the season, ending a long dry spell.
“A man can only take so much before it’s just enough,” Holleman said in victory lane on FloRacing. “I mean I was inside the [No.] 07, he just ran me in the grass, I hit the water before I even made contact with him. I hate that but you know same thing with the [No.] 47, he chopped me getting into three and hey, once you do me dirty it’s green light for me. We’re racing for a win baby and that’s what we did tonight.”
