Burt Myers scored win number 106 at Bowman Gray, and Daniel Beeson scored win number one in Modified Twin-25’s on Saturday night.
Myers started on pole for the first twin feature of the night and led all the way, even though there were several cautions. The first one was the biggest, and involved Beeson. Early on, Beeson and Jordan Flemming were battling for position, when Flemming gave Beeson a shot going into turn three. It was enough of a hit to send Beeson spinning.
Beeson spun back down the track and collected Lee Jeffreys, who hit Beeson hard in the right front. Beeson was able to continue after repairing the damage.
After a few more quick yellows, Myers pulled away with the win over Tim Brown. The win moves Myers to just one win away from the all-time record held by Tim Brown at 107. He also tied his son, Slate Myers, with the most wins on the season at three.
“How about that man?” Mayers said in victory lane on FloRacing in regards to tying Slate for most wins on the year. “That’s a feat in itself. He reminded me last week that he had the most wins. I tell you we worked really hard to get the car to be good for 25 lappers for qualifying and it showed. How about that PSR chassis it dang near drives itself. Golly man. It never gets old, never gets old.”
Beeson rallied back to finish 14th in the first twin, which gave him the pole for the second one as the top 14 was the invert. Slate started right behind him in third and wasted no time going for the lead. The youngest Myers gave Beeson several shots to the rear bumper, at one point sending the No. 44 into a four wheel slide. However, the hard racing came back to bite Slate, as the repeated contact caused a bug accordion effect.
Kyle Southern got to the back bumper of Slate and started battling for second, costing Slate time to Beeson. Beeson held off Slate for the rest of the race to take his first career victory in a Modified at Bowman Gray.
“Dude, it’s uh, I don’t even know how long I’ve been doing this,” Beeson said after the win. “It feels like 20 years, but it’s a solid ten years of hard work. [I’ve lost them every way you could, and we got in a wreck the first race, and it was to bend up, and we worked to the minute it pulled out there, and I really wasn’t sure what I’d have. I guess that was a good thing, because I didn’t get time to think about it, or decide what I was going to do. I just had to go execute.
“We’ve done it now. With about two to go, that’s what I was thinking, ‘man, if we can do this two more times, I can get this monkey off my back,’ and we’ve accomplished what we’ve tried for so long over here.”
