Corey Lajoie, Fat Head bring experience and strengths to Snowball Derby

Supershoe has always coverted a Snowball Derby trophy amongst all others outside of NASCAR

Life is good for Supershoe but a Tom Dawson Trophy would make things even better.

A week removed from signing a one-year extension to remain in the GoFAS No. 32 in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, Corey Lajoie has returned to the Florida Gulf Coast to chase a race that he will not give-up on until he emerges victorious.

The Snowball Derby.

Lajoie missed the 2018 running to get married, which also allowed him the time to secure signing with GoFAS in the first place. With a full Cup season to his resume, Lajoie has a level of comfort and confidence that shows beyond his usual gait.

LaJoie is in a good place, figuratively and physically with a No. 7 prepared by FatHead Racing’s Jamie Yelton. The pairing is as smart and experienced as anyone else on the premises.

“I keep saying I want to keep coming down here until I win one of these damn things and I’ve been close,” Lajoie told Short Track Scene on Wednesday. “Two years ago, we broke a track bar mount or something. So this year, after the test, I feel like we have a car that we can make a little bit better.

“And I do think we’ll be in contention.”

LaJoie has spent the past nine months racing at the highest level of the sport with a car that isn’t amongst the most funded. He sees some of the best stock car racing has to offer each week, and he’s an adamant believe that the talent-level and competition level this week is just as fierce.

“You don’t just back into a Snowball Derby trophy,” LaJoie said. “So, it’s hard. It’s even harder when you only race one of these things once a year. They drive so difference than what I’m used to every week.

“And then you’re racing against the best of the Super Late Model community, right? So they make you put your big boy britches on and bring your A-game. I’m excited to see where we stack up.”

This will be his fifth attempt, but is still seeking his first top-10. He led eight laps in 2016. This will be the first time he does not race his family-owned car.
