Slinger Speedway sold to former racers who pledge to maintain tradition

Slinger Super Speedway is now under the stewardship of Travis and Kelsey Dassow.

Both longtime racers and car owners at the Wisconsin quarter-mile, they have completed the purchase from outgoing owner Todd Thelen.

“We believe change brings fresh perspectives and new opportunities,” Kelsey said in a spcial media statement. “As owners, we will keep the family tradition of Sunday night racing.

“Travis and I have had the passion for racing since we were young. We both were successful in go-kart racing and both moved up to racing cars in the Late Model and Super Late Model Divisions. Eventually, we crossed paths at Slinger Speedway, and years later we married.

“While I attended UW-Milwaukee for Engineering, I was awarded the Alan Kulwicki Memorial Scholarship in 2011 and 2012. That sponsorship gave me the opportunity to become friends with the Kulwicki family and to carry on his legacy.”

The couple will continue to operate Apex Motorsports and their graphics business.

Matt Weaver is the owner and founder of Short Track Scene. Weaver grew up in the sport, having raced himself before becoming a reporter in college at the University of South Alabama. He also has extensive experience covering NASCAR, IndyCar and Dirt Sprint Cars.

Super glad to hear the speedway will continue to run. I raced there several times in the late 70s even won a few and have fond memories of the track. I wish the new owners all the best wishes. And hope the drivers enjoy it like I did.
