Slinger Super Speedway sale imminent; will remain a race track

Legendary Slinger Super Speedway will be sold imminently but it will remain a race track.

The announcement was made by Todd and Elizabeth Thelen on the track Facebook page on Monday night. The potential buyers were not named but were described as local fans-turned-racers, similar to the Thelens who would operate the property as a track and ‘take it into the next chapter of its historic existence.’

The buyers will be made public once the sale is finalized. The track will also retain its currently announced schedule, which includes the prestigious Slinger Nationals on July 8-9 and the ASA STARS event on June 15.

Thelen is a life long devotee of the speedway since the 1970s and a former racer who competed at Slinger at the turn of the century before joining the track in a management role in 2005. He became a partner at the track in 2013 and outright owner in 2021 when purchasing it from Wayne Erickson.

Matt Weaver is the owner and founder of Short Track Scene. Weaver grew up in the sport, having raced himself before becoming a reporter in college at the University of South Alabama. He also has extensive experience covering NASCAR, IndyCar and Dirt Sprint Cars.
