The Mod Squad Nationals event is now at Franklin County Raceway in Callaway, VA on Saturday, September 20 for the SMART Modified Tour powered by Pace-O-Matic . Series officials made the announcement today to help teams and fans prepare for what will be round one of the “SMART 3” playoff.
The event was originally scheduled to be held at Lonesome Pine Motorsports Park, in Coeburn, VA, but it was recently announced that the facility will be sold in early September.
“We are excited to go back to the fast and exciting Franklin County Raceway, but it’s unfortunate we will not visit Lonesome Pine. We gave it our best effort for three years, but with poor weather and now the sale, we are making the change for our September 20 date,” said Chris Williams, Series Director for SMART. “Our sponsor for the event is from Virginia and they are looking forward to what should be a great show.”
“The management team at Franklin County Raceway is excited to have the SMART Modified Tour come back to our local short track for a second time during our management’s inaugural 2025 season,” said Tim Meadows, Promoter for FCR. “Everyone knows the first race was the closest finish ever in the tour’s history, so I think it’s gonna be a great race.”
The SMART race at Franklin County Raceway in May had everyone talking. In fact, the Kenny Minter Classic produced a photo finish. Ryan Newman’s victory over Luke Baldwin in that event was just .014 (thousandths) of a second.

The SMART Mods are back in action in just more than a week with the SMART Beach Trip near the coast of North Carolina. On Friday, August 29, the tour will compete at Coastal Plains Raceway in Jacksonville, NC. On Saturday, August 30, the teams will travel 40 minutes down the road to Carteret County Speedway, in Swansboro, NC, to complete the doubleheader weekend. More details will be announced soon.
