The ball just keeps on rolling for Ronnie Williams, as he rallied late to prevail in the $10,000-to-win 100-lap Tri-Track Modified Series race on Wednesday night at Seekonk over Tommy Barrett Jr. and Matt Swanson.
It’s the second big victory in the last four days for Williams.
On Sunday, he won the Valenti Modified race up at New Hampahire Motor Speedway in a battle with Anthony Nocella. Now, he has pocketed another $10,000 thanks to a Tri-Track win against a field of 30 strong.
“Every MRS show or Tri-Track race is gonna be big money, and you got top competitors here,” Williams said. “To come here and win like we did, it’s awesome.”
Seekonk hasn’t even been a track Williams enjoyed coming to in the past. Wins, however, do change how one thinks of a track.
“I actually told my spotter Jerry ‘I don’t even like this track,” Williams said. “I guess my view has changed a little bit over the last two hours.”
Williams short-pitted much of the competition, putting a right rear tire on his No. 25 Modified. Once many of the other contenders had pitted, WillIams became one of the first drivers to have fresh rubber to work with. Slowly but surely, he climbed through the field, and Williams found himself in contention to win when it came down to crunch time.
With nine laps to go, Williams made what would be the race-winning move when he got underneath Swanson to take the lead. That would not be the last hurdle for Williams to overcome, however.
The race was filled with cautions, including one that bunched the field up for a five-lap sprint to the checkered flag. While Tommy Barrett Jr. gave it his all on the restart, giving Williams a couple of shots to the rear of the car, he was unable to shake Williams.
Williams has had some success here, having run inside the top-10 in his only other start at Seekonk, the 2017 Seekonk 150.
Matt Hirschman was the highest finishing driver of those who pitted with 46 laps to go, plaing fourth. The race was one where even he couldn’t tell who had the fastest car.
“That was a wild race,” Hirschman said. “I have no idea who really had the best car tonight. I don’t know where we really stacked up. Did we have a first-place car? Second? Third? I really don’t know. That’s pretty cool that you have a race that can be as unpredictable as that is.”
At the end of the day, it was Williams who kept his winning ways going.
