Bowman Gray Stadium Opening Night, Hayes Jewelers 200 gets a free online stream

The Madhouse is coming to your living room.

For the first time, a full racing card from historic Bowman Gray Stadium will be streamed live online and for free on Saturday night from Winston Salem, North Carolina.

It is the latest NASCAR track to be offered on FansChoice.TV, the sanctioning body’s streaming platform that also broadcasts the Whelen Modified Tour, K&N Pro Series East, Pro Series West and weekly racing at tracks like Langley Speedway and Berlin Raceway.

This is big news because Saturday night is also one of the biggest races of the season, the 200-lap Hayes Jewelers 200 for the premiere division Tour Type Modifieds — the same cars as the Whelen Modified Tour.

On the undercard is a 40-lap Sportsman races, essentially Limited Late Models, with street stocks and stadium stocks opening the card.

Bowman Gray Stadium is a flat quarter-mile track that is also the oldest continually operating NASCAR sanctioned track in the country, doing so since 1949.

It has hosted 29 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series races in its history, from 1958-1971. Rex White scored the most Cup wins here with six — including four in a row from 1961 to 1962. Junior Johnson and Richard Petty had four Cup Series wins here, while David Pearson had three. Bobby Allison won the final Cup Series race at the track in 1971, but the track has thrived at the local level ever since.

The track, due to the difficulty passing on a flat quarter-mile, often requires contact to get around a leading car. That, in turn, leads to conflict and frequent fighting amongst competitors, leading to the Madhouse moniker.

The track’s weekly modified division has twice been featured in a cable television show.

Saturday night’s racing card begins at 7 p.m. ET.
