Billy Gregg won the Sportsman division championship at Bowman Gray Stadium and Zack Ore won his 10th race of the year at the track on championship night.
Ore had the most wins of the season by far, but he was unable to compete at every race, leaving the door open in the championship. Billy had a 36 point lead over his son, Nate. Billy had three wins to Nate’s four. The two ran first and second most of the race.
The race was very caution filled and never got a chance to get spread out. Just past halfway, Ore took the lead from Billy on the outside on a restart. With six laps to go, Tommy Neal moved into second for another restart. Billy was third and Nate was fifth after the choose cone.
Going into turn three, Nate and Justin Taylor were battling when the two made contact, sending Nate up the track and tearing his nose and left side door off. Nate was very frustrated with Taylor and ran down the track under caution to show his displeasure.
This caution ultimately ended the race early, giving Ore win number ten and Billy his first Sportsman championship.
“I gotta thank everybody, man,” Ore said in victory lane on FloRacing. “God, my family, all my team that supports me, means everything to me. We’ve had an unbelievable season. If we could have run all season we’d have been right there with Billy, but hey, congratulations to Billy. This has been an awesome season.”
Billy was emotional celebrating with his team in turn one while Ore was in victory lane.
“I couldn’t do it without this guy right here,” Billy said on FloRacing, pointing towards Nate. “My son, he’s in the shop every night working on this thing, slaving on this thing, making sure everything happens. These guys have been behind us all year. Just kinda emotional with the Casey Kepler thing. I wanna dedicate this to him. Kyler, we did this for your daddy, baby.”
