Marc-Antoine Camirand sweeps NASCAR Canada Twin 125 at Chaudière

For the second time in as many hours, Marc-Antoine Camirand won a NASCAR Canada Series race at Autodrome Chaudière over Donald Theetge and Will Larue.

It was largely an identical race from the first half of the Twin 125s that the division ran on Sunday in Vallée-Jonction, Quebec. Theetge was able to take the lead from Camirand but the car was too tight and couldn’t hold it.

Once again, Camirand was able to complete a professional clean pass over his fellow veteran and Larue completed the podium.

“The car was a little bit more loose this time and I think it was because of the weather, more hot than the first race. But once again, I saved the car, my guys did a great job, thanks guys. Best ever crew chief. Best ever.”

He is referring to Robin McCluskey, who has five championships between stints with LP Dumoulin and Camirand. With a pair of wins, Camirand is now back in championship form.

“Definitely,” Camirand said. “Too early to think about the championship but this was a good start to the season for us.”

Theeteg first took the lead from Camirand off a Lap 56 restart but then surrendered it back three laps off a restart with 21 laps to go.

“We were faster than the first race,” Theeteg said. “When I took the lead, I knew I was tight again, so I tried to go to the second groove and was stil fast out there. We had a good restart but the 96 was so fast on the bottom and I was so tight, especially the final 25 laps. But you know, we’re proud. This was a good points day race and we were really fast.”

And Larue was more than willing to accept a pair of podiums.

“Yeah, same as the first race,” Larue said. “In traffic, its hard to get up there and battle them without using up your tires. Credit to Marc and Donald. It’s a hard task to pass them.”
