Engines pulled after Snowball Derby found to be in compliance

Jason Reasin Photography

Each of the four engines pulled for dyno inspection and taken to Robert Yates Racing Engines following the Snowball Derby were found to be in compliance.

Following the race on December 8, the Sealed Engine Alliance Leaders took one sealed engine and three Southern ‘Parts’ engines from three different builders for what has become an annual or twice annual short track industry review. This particular pull was announced before the race but the Derby has become a common event for such pulls.

The following engines were pulled after the race:

Stephen Nasse | Anthony Campi Racing | Robbie White Racing Engine
Dawson Sutton | Rackley WAR| Hamner Racing Engines
Ty Majeski | Gearheadz Motorsports | McGunegill Racing Engines |
Cole Butcher | Wilson Motorsports | Upchurch Racing Engines

From the press release detailing the inspection:

Officials taking part in the dyno evaluation were S.E.A.L.’s Co‐Chairman Greg Wood, CARS Super Late Model Tour West’s Series Director Chris Wright, S.E.A.L.’s Engine Technical Consultant Rick Davis and ASA’s Chief Technical Inspector Freddie Query. Additionally, the engine builder from each team whose engine was tested was present. The engines were run on the dyno at the independent facility of Robert Yates Racing Engines with their staff overseeing all of the processes.

The effort to check these engines had multiple purposes. One was to verify they were in compliance with the guidelines set forth for these engines. Another was to gather more data to benefit all super late model racing.

All the dyno runs were completed using common headers and a common race ready carburetor like the ones used by the top super late model teams.

“It takes a great effort from the teams, builders and officials to gather this important information and we truly appreciate everyone’s hard work and cooperation in this process,” Wood said. “Once again, I’d like to note that the staff at Robert Yates Racing Engines was outstanding, and we appreciate the professionalism and the integrity they bring to this process.”

    It wasn’t emough they fucked Ty with that ridiculous call, then they rubbed salt in the wound and made them pull the engine (as last car on lead lap). They must really miss Ricky Brooks! Lesson: don’t stink up their show or else!

    Been coming to the derby for awhile, I know they have no control of the weather but the stupid call on Ty was the end for my family and me !They put a very dark cloud over a very prestigious event, such a shame!

    @Todd
    I speak now not in malice but in earnest despair, for the conclusion you have drawn is of such astonishing simplicity that it grieves me more than I can readily convey; and yet I’m moved less to anger than to sorrow, so profoundly indeed that I find myself unable to discern whether your words arose from haste, from a species of naivety, or from a mind altogether too content with its first and poorest notion.
