Bubba Pollard joins Fathead Racing as driver development coach

This is a major resource for any young driver wanting to learn in the Super Late Model ranks

Bubba Pollard has joined forces with Jamie Yelton’s Fathead Racing to serves as a driver development coach.

There have been so shortage of young racers and their family support system that have inquired about retaining the legendary Super Late Model ace to help pass along his race craft knowledge but Pollard said it was a matter of place and time.

“I’ve always wanted to do the driver development thing, but the timing and resources just weren’t there,” said Pollard in a Fathead press release. “I’ve been focused on my own racing and building our program, but now, with FHR, it’s the right time to get this going.

“He has great cars and I believe in what he’s doing and building.”

Pollard and Yelton have always gotten along at the track with a great deal of mutual respect and it had to be this kind of personality type mesh.

“Jamie and his team are a solid group,” Pollard said in the same release. “We’re cut from the same cloth—just a couple of rednecks who live for the thrill of the race and bringing home trophies.”

Over the years, Fathead Racing has worked with David Ragan, Bubba Wallace, Corey Lajoie, Collin Garrett and Jackson Boone.

“We’re not here to cash checks; we’re here to develop young drivers who want to put in the work and grow,” said Jamie. “We’ve worked with a lot of drivers over the years and take pride in their progress and development.”

Pollard began working with current Fathead development driver George Phillips over the weekend in the Southern Super Series race at Cordele Motor Speedway in Georgia.

“Sure, anyone can drive fast but winning, that’s a different game,” Pollard said. “It’s about knowing how to race, and it all starts with respect on the track.”

Yelton said Pollard is going to enhance his program in ways that few drivers could.

“We’ve got top-tier cars every week but having Bubba onboard to work one-on-one with our drivers is a game-changer,” Yelton said. “His track record is unmatched, and we’re excited to give our drivers a chance to learn from the best.”

Pollard will continue to race his own cars out of the Pollard Motorsports stable but will simply lend his at-track time to whichever development driver Yelton has at any given point, currently Boone and Phillips.
