Cole Butcher scores pole for 58th Redbud 400

Daniel Vining

Cole Butcher will lead the ASA STARS national Super Late Model field to green in the 58th annual Redbud 400 on Saturday evening at Anderson Speedway.

His hustled his No. 28 Wilson Motorsports Toyota to a 12.019 lap around the high banked Indiana half-mile, good enough to beat Cody Coughlin by 0.052 in a rare Super Late Model appearance for Anthony Campi Racing.

“I’m looking forward to it,” Butcher said. “We have a great race car. There’s a lot of great competition and hope we can put on a good show here at Anderson. Definitely happy with it.

“Just keeping the tires on it. Eight tire race so we’re going to have to go a long way on these tires. It’s going to be fun.”

In the other Campi car, championship leader Casey Roderick starts ninth.

“I think we got a good long run car,” Roderick said. “I think we lack a little bit of short run speed there for whatever reason. I don’t know what these guys are doing on qualifying but we made our car better in practice. I was happy with the handling.

“Watching these cars, they’re loose and sideways, about to knock the wall down but mine was nice and smooth but didn’t have the same kind of speed. Maybe I didn’t hustle it enough. I don’t want to start where we’re starting but 400 laps is a long race. I think we’ll be alright.”

The race airs live on TrackTV.com and will begin at 8 p.m. ET.
