After a historic season at Bowman Gray Stadium this year, Burt Myers is looking to win a third North-South Shootout this Saturday at Southern National Motorsports Park.
Myers scored his 12th Tour-Type Modified championship at Bowman Gray this year, where he also extended his win total at the track to 107. He also made the playoffs in the SMART Modified Tour this season, and now looks to score his third win in the North-South Shootout. He is feeling especially good now that the race is at Southern National, a track he has a good history at.
“I’ve always loved Southern National,” Myers said. “Usually run really good there. I think I’ve won there twice there in my career. The SMART Tour came there in 2022 if I’m not mistaken and we ran third. So, yeah, I’m really looking forward to it. The North-South Shootout is always a fun event. It’s the best of the best that usually show up, so when you can take home a win in one of those events, it’s pretty special.”
The event historically ran at the now closed Concord Speedway, which is where Myers has both of his wins at. The race has also been held at Caraway Speedway from 2011-2014 and 2020-2025, as well as a one off at Hickory Motor Speedway in 2019. While his wins were at Concord, he has poles in this event at all three tracks.
Myers considers this event to be one of the biggest in Modified racing, and is looking for a checkered flag this weekend and nothing else.
“It’s up there with Wilkesboro being in the mix with the SMART Tour and then the King of the Modifieds at South Boston,” Myers said. “Those are big events but the North-South Shootout is one that everybody strives to win. It’s the last race of the year for us basically, so everybody wants to go out on a high note. [Winning is] why we go,” Myers stated. “If I didn’t think that I had a shot to win, I wouldn’t go. That’s why we go is to win and see if we can take home a trophy.”
Myers will also race in the 75-lap 602 Modified race that evening, looking to win in both of the modified events.
The green flag is scheduled to fly at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, with Legends, Chargers, Any Cars, and Vintage Modifieds & Sportsman also racing alongside the 75-lap 602 Modified feature and 125-lap Tour-Type Modified main event.
Tickets are available online at snmpark.com as well as at the gate on race day. The race will also be available as a pay-per-view broadcast on Ultra Broadcasting.
