25 drivers have entered to compete in the 53rd running of the Winchester 400 at the high banked Indiana short track on Sunday.
The entry list is headlined by defending Winchester 400 winner Gio Ruggiero and two-time Winchester 400 winner Stephen Nasse, as well as Midwestern Late Model superstar and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series competitor Ty Majeski. However, they will have plenty of competition seeking victory at one of America’s toughest short tracks.
Casey Roderick will compete in the Winchester 400, fresh off his ASA STARS National Tour victory in the Glass City 200 at Toledo Speedway. Roderick’s Glass City 200 triumph was, notably, overshadowed by a postrace brawl between former NASCAR driver Matt Tifft and Billy VanMeter. VanMeter is among the 25 entries in Sunday’s fall classic.
Winchester Speedway is one of the toughest tracks on the circuit due to its aged surface and its 37 degrees of banking in the corners.
Some of the biggest names in stock car racing history have won the Winchester 400 throughout its illustrious history, including NASCAR Hall of Famers Mark Martin, who won the race in 1985 and 1986, and Rusty Wallace, who won in 1982. Two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Busch, 2020 NASCAR Cup Series champion Chase Elliott, and current Cup stars Erik Jones and Carson Hocevar have also won at the high-banked track in Indiana.
Casey Roderick leads Kyle Steckly by 157 points in the ASA Stars National Tour standings with just two races remaining. Austin Nason is third in series points, while Cole Butcher and Dawson Sutton round out the top-five heading into Sunday’s Winchester 400 – the penultimate race of the 2024 season for the ASA Stars National Tour.
