Meet Montgomery Motor Speedway Pro Late Model track champion John Bolen

John Bolen captured his thrid Pro Late Model championship on the strength of sheer consistency. He didn’t win this season, but his two runner-ups was enough to see him through over Bobby Knox and Dustin Smith. He also captured top honors in 2014 and 2010, with his family team becoming one of the more consistently competitive teams in the Deep South.

Here’s a Q&A provided to Short Track Scene by track promoter Stan Narrison.

Congratulation on your 2018 Show me the Money Series Championship.

Thanks… Montgomery is my home track and I enjoy racing there.

How Long have you raced?

I Started racing go carts when I was 7 … so 23 years…. I’ve raced Bandeleros, Legend cars, NASCAR Late Model at Nashville, Southern Allstars Late Models and some ASA Southeastern tour also.

What was your favorite racecar?

We had a racecar we called “High Maintenance” that I finished 4th at the Snowflake 100 and raced 15-20 times a year. Some folks will remember it as the car that burnt at Montgomery Motor Speedway.

We know you have a young family. How do you feel about your son Jase racing?

That seems to be a regular question. I want whatever my kids want. If they want to race we will go racing … if they want to do something else than I guess we will try something else.

Favorite Monster Energy Cup Driver of all time and present?

Well, all time would be Jeff Gordon. I met him in 1992 along with Darrell Waltrip and followed his career after that. My current driver is Martin Truex Jr. I like the way he races.

Do you have a Short track Hero?

I always enjoyed watching Charlie Bradberry. Kind of sad that some of the young drivers don’t know who Bradberry is.

What are your off-season racing plans?

We have some new cars we are taking to 5 flags to run the Snowflake portion of the Snowball Derby, and we will be taking the family to Disney World.

What is your favorite Movie?

Step Brothers …. Anything with Will Ferrell ………..and maybe Forrest Gump.
