Front Row Bonus announced for Snowflake 100

The Snowflake 100 will have a special bonus for the pole sitter and/or second place starter this year, if they choose to chase it.

In a bonus paid for through Family Funeral and Cremation, if the fastest qualifier elects to start at the tail of the field, and they can win the race, they will get a $3,000 bonus. If the pole sitter chooses not to attempt it, then the outside pole sitter has the same option to receive the bonus. However, if both drivers agree to the challenge, then it becomes a $5,000 bonus, making it $15,000 to win for the two drivers.

The last three Snowflake 100 events have been won from the pole, so this bonus was added as an attempt to make the action more exciting and challenging for the Saturday night Pro Late Model race.

“We wanted to give the teams that qualify up front a little more to race for and, with that, the fans will be on the edge of their seats if the driver elects to go for the bonus,” said Tim Bryant, general manager of the speedway. “We have seen drivers come from deep starting spots, so history proves that it can be done.”

Bryant is correct, with Ryan Crane winning from 32nd in 2007, Chase Elliott from 31st in 2010, Augie Grill from 23rd in 2016 and most recently Jake Johnson from 31st in 2020. In addition to that, seven times in the last 11 years, the hard charger for the race was able to finish top 5, proving how feasible it is.

“We have seen it time and time again that a fast car can get through traffic here,” added Bryant. “It’s not going to be an easy task by any means, but that’s why there is a bonus and it is a challenge.”
