Brody Monahan redeems himself, leading every lap of the CARS Tour PLM race at Anderson

CARS Tour

For the second race in a row the Pro Late Model leads wire to wire as Brody Monahan held off Conner Jones to score his first CARS Tour victory.

To say Brody Monahan needed this win is an understatement. The last race at Hickory, Monahan was at the center of the chaos. On two separate restarts, he missed a shift, each time taking out more than just a handful of cars. Racing is an unapologetically brutal sport. Monahan faced a lot of backlash and was candid about his hesitation to even show up at Anderson but with the support of his family, he persevered and Saturday night he drove a perfect race.

“It’s super big,” said Monahan “It’s going from your lowest point to the highest. Making the mistake I made the other week, I was super down on myself. I didn’t know if I even wanted to race but the support of my crew and family brought me back and I’m just super glad I came.”

Monahan’s team is a family owned operation with Monahan himself doing a lot of the backend work to find sponsors in order to get him to the racetrack. They’ve found success this season scoring big wins at New Smyrna’s World Series of Asphalt and now the CARS Tour.

“It means a lot,” said Monahan “Especially it being a family owned car, it hits different when you get out there and win races. My father puts his heart and soul into everything he does, in life and every business he’s had. He’s loved racing ever since he was little and I’m super proud of him and myself to be able to get here.”

Monahan’s victory, on paper, seemed easy, but he was challenged on several restarts. Just past the halfway point of the race, point leader Mason Walters lined up alongside Monahan and was able to get the jump on the No. 31 but it was too good of a jump. Walters was called for a restart violation and put back a row. The setback was costly as Walters was never able to make the spots up and would settle for a fourth place finish.

Conner Jones, Walters closest rival competing for the Pro Late Model title, had several opportunities to challenge Monahan but it was futile. Jones comes home in the second position, carving a few points out of Walters point lead.

Treyten Lapcevich however, lost ground in the points. Lapcevich was running inside the top five when an axle snapped on his No. 30 car. He brought the car to the pits where the team was ready with a new one to switch out but when the race went back green, Lapcevich had more problems than just an axle. The entire left rear wheel assembly broke off ending Lapcevich’s Pro Late Model race but he was able to rebound with a top five finish in the Late Model Stock feature.
