The 2021 Solid Rock Carriers CARS Late Model Stock Car Tour season will formally begin on March 6 with the series making its first visit to Dillon Motor Speedway in South Carolina.
Track owner and former NASCAR competitor Ron Barfield Jr. expressed excitement at the idea of the CARS Tour visiting his facility for the first time and is confident that the event will kickstart a new tradition in Dillon’s extensive history.
“When you talk about hosting the CARS Late Model Stock Car season opener on March 6, it doesn’t get any bigger and better than that,” Barfield said. “It is a big thing to have the CARS Tour at our little track here in Dillon, and the fact that it is the season opener is the best possible scenario you could ask for.”
Although Dillon has been in operation since 1966, the track has only recently started hosting events for major sanctioning bodies such as the ASA Southeast Asphalt Tour, ISCARS Dash Series and the UARA STARS Late Model Series, among others.
The predecessor to the CARS Tour in the USAR Pro Cup Series also briefly ran at Dillon during its final years of operation, with Brad Rogers, J.P. Morgan and Clay Rogers each taking home checkered flags in those three races.
Dillon joins Caraway Speedway and Rockingham Speedway as new venues on the CARS LMSC Tour schedule, which brings the total number of races on the calendar to a single-season record of 14.
CARS Tour series director Chris Ragle believes that the expanded schedule for the LMSC Tour is the right direction after seven years of operation, and shared Barfield’s optimism about the potential of Dillon becoming a staple for the series in the 2020s.
“The diversity and the advancement of the 2021 schedule should have both fans and competitors excited to watch CARS Tour events this season,” Ragle said. “I think Dillon makes for a great addition to the schedule and great destination for fans and competitors alike to see the season open at new and unknown facility to Late Model Stock Car regulars.”
Before the CARS LMSC Tour arrives at Dillon for the PeeDee 150 in March, the facility will kick off its weekly schedule with the New Year’s Bash for Street Stocks that will take place this weekend.
