BLR to appeal Mobile Heart of Dixie disqualification

Daniel Vining

Bryson-Lopez Racing issued a statement via social media on Sunday evening that their team intends to appeal the post-race disqualification of their number 47 entry, driven by Luke Baldwin in Saturday’s Heart of Dixie 200 at Mobile International Speedway. Baldwin crossed the finish line first, but the car failed post-race inspection afterward.

In the statement, the team is questioning discrepancies in the Sealed Engine Alliance Leaders (S.E.A.L.) rulebook, and the interpretation of the rules.

“BLR and Clark Automotive are filing for an appeal on the disqualification at Mobile International Speedway due to discrepancies in S.E.A.L. Alliance and the rules interpreted on Saturday night.”

According to chief technical inspector Ricky Brooks, rod bearings and lifters in the car’s engine were found to be out of compliance during a post-race teardown of said engine.

Following the disqualification, second place finisher Dustin Smith’s engine was also torn down, passing inspection. Smith was declared the winner of the event, and has since been paid the $50,000.00 winning prize money.

At the time of this publishing, Clark Automotive, the engine builder of record, has declined to comment.
