Justin Bosignore to miss next two NASCAR Modified Tour races despite solid start

Justin Bonsignore has been full-time on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour with Kenneth Massa Motorsports for every race since the Icebreaker 150 at Thompson Speedway with 48 wins and four championships in between but that streak will end this weekend.

Sitting fifth in the championship standings and just 20 points out, Bonsignore and KMM have withdrawn from the race at Oxford Plains Speedway. Bonsignore had made 243 consecutive starts in the No. 51 and all but two of his starts in the NASCAR series had come with Massa.

Bonsignore declined comment when Short Track Scene asked on Wednesday but issued a statement on Thursday morning.

“We would like to let our Kenneth Massa Motorsports fans know that we have decided to miss the next two NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour races at Oxford (May 2) and Seekonk (May 16).

“We will take this time to continue to invest in our program and come back stronger. The decision to not compete in these two events is not related to health. We look forward to returning to NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour racing at our home track, Riverhead Raceway, on Saturday, May 30.”

It’s worth noting that the Massa team relocated to Mooresville, North Carolina last summer and Oxford Plains in the longest non-southern trip for even the New England based teams.
