UARA Sportsman: Morris Doubles Up in Mobile

Brandon Morris is catching fire, and at the right time.

Morris claimed his second win in succession and third overall of the 2026 UARA Sportsman season, emerging victorious after a battle for the win with Dylan Bigley at Mobile International Speedway on Saturday.

“I love him [Bigley] and his family so much, dude,” said Morris. “We had a lot of hard racing tonight, a lot of side-by-side battling, and we didn’t touch one time, so I don’t know why everybody else in the field can’t do that right there and put on a hell of a show, but that was awesome.”

Bigley appreciated Morris’ statements, although felt there was a little left on the table, with the gremlin showing itself on restarts.

“Man, I’m a veteran driver, too,” exclaimed Bigley. “We both have been racing this for a long time. We definitely had the best car today, but the last ten laps, the clutch started slipping on the restarts and that’s all it took. Man, it sucks.”

Morris qualified fourth with Dodge Carlbert fastest, however the top ten times were inverted for the lineup following Carlbert’s dice roll, which left Morris starting seventh. The front row following the invert were top two in points entering tonight’s feature, James Seeright and Tim Sozio. The front row held their positions on track for 17 laps until the first caution flew for Robbie Bundon spinning on the exit of turn two. Five laps after the restart, Sadie Parsons and Jimmy Frazier made contact in turn four, causing a chain reaction with Matthew Green backwards and Cody Struble taking avoiding action.

Morris settled in fourth after the second restart and was biding his time while his competitor’s equipment began fading, passing Seeright and Bobby Mobley with ease to obtain second after the halfway mark until Rick Reed, on lap 48, suffered a mechanical failure into turn three and went over the hill, into the grass. Morris took the opportunity on the following restart to pass Tim Sozio on his outside and begin to open his lead, but Bigley wasn’t getting any smaller in Morris’ mirror.

Bigley made his move for the lead on Morris’ outside with only 20 laps left, yet faced the same pressure he applied to Morris until a single-car spin brought out the yellow again with ten laps to go. Morris took the lead back with a stellar restart, but championship leader Tim Sozio lost a right-front tire into turn one behind the leaders and collected Bobby Mobley, with Mobley spinning Sozio afterward into the concrete wall on the backstretch. Mobley was penalized for rough driving and parked for the final ten circuits.

One final caution came out, this time for debris in the form of a hood, and only five laps left to settle the race. Morris jumped out on the final restart ahead of Bigley, who put on immense pressure yet raced him fair and ultimately could not find a way around the No. 56 of Morris. Dodge Carlbert took third, overcoming an early penalty for a loose window net, followed by Rice Robinson with a career-best fourth place, and Adam Briggs finished fifth after replacing his motor post-qualifying.

Adam Salter outlasted Justin Cruz for the win in the Crown Vic feature after enduring a red flag period over an hour for track repairs.

Morris, Bigley, and Briggs have all now made larger strides toward the top of the standings after Sozio’s troubles, with their next opportunity coming September 12th at Auburndale Speedway.
