Pulliam returns to the South Boston 200 with Jr Motorsports

Buddy Pulley

For the first time since 2019, Lee Pulliam will compete in the South Boston 200, and he’ll do so in a car fielded by JR Motorsports.

Pulliam is a six-time winner of the South Boston 200, winning the event every year from 2011-2016. Earlier this season, he returned to Philip Morris victory lane for the first time in nearly seven years, scoring his 53rd career victory at the track in the opening race of the South Boston Speedway season.

Pulliam was testing a JR Motorsports Late Model on Wednesday when he announced through South Boston Speedway’s social media channels that he would return to chase a seventh South Boston 200 victory in the first leg of the Virginia Triple Crown.

As for his relationship with JR Motorsports, Pulliam competed for the team in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series earlier this year, making his debut at Martinsville. However, the partnership began last fall when Pulliam drove the team’s No. 88 in the Thanksgiving Classic at Southern National Motorsports Park, finishing second.

JR Motorsports enters this year’s South Boston 200 as the defending race winners after Connor Hall captured victory in last year’s event.
