Carson Loftin returns to Nelson for 2026 Late Model run

Carson Loftin will return to Nelson Motorsports for a second season competing for wins and championships in the CARS Late Model Stock Tour and NASCAR Virginia Triple Crown.

“Places like Coastal Plains Raceway and Florence Motor Speedway really suit my driving style coming from (Tour Type) Modifieds, and I feel like I learned a lot last year that we can build on,” Loftin said in a team press release. “Anytime you go back to a track for a second season, you’re more confident, especially as a driver transitioning into a car I had never driven before last year. Now I have notes, experience, and a better idea of what I’m wanting to feel out of the car.”

Loftin will continue working with Kyle Hood and Matthew Eshleman in his continued transition from the open wheel to stock car ranks.

“Working with Kyle Hood, Matthew Eshleman, and everyone at Nelson Motorsports has been huge for my development,” Loftin said. “Kyle and I really built our relationship as the season went on after he came in halfway through last season. We clicked instantly and work well together both at and away from the racetrack, which has helped our communication and made us better as a driver-crew chief combo. I’m extremely grateful for his belief in me from day one and what he brings to the program, and I’m excited to get to work with him for a full season.

“Matthew has pushed me to be more disciplined and to constantly work on myself, both mentally and physically, and that’s something I really needed last year. Focusing on my preparation race by race helped me build my confidence back. I feel way more prepared mentally going into this season than I did as a rookie. I’m thankful for the time Matthew and I had working together as he transitions to the next step in his career.”

The 2026 CARS Tour campaign begins February 21 at Coastal Plains, with the first leg of the Virginia Triple Crown scheduled for June 27 at South Boston Speedway.

“I can’t thank Mr. Nelson enough for his belief in me and for giving me this opportunity, and I’m motivated to make the most of this season for him and for everyone on the team. Ready to get to work with these Henry County boys,” Loftin said.
