The new management at Jukasa Motor Speedway established lofty goals for its Canadian Short Track Nationals on September 2.
Play host to the richest Late Model race in North America.
And based on the recently updated purse structure for the Labor Day Weekend event, track general manager Alex Nagy and his bosses have exceeded those goals. Originally announced as a $25,000-to-win Pro Late Model race, Short Track Scene has learned that the Canadian Short Track Nationals will now pay $50,000-to-win and $2,000-to-start.
That’s roughly $38,000 and $1,520 converted to US currency.
The official announcement will come on Thursday afternoon.
For the sake of comparison, the Masters of the Pros at Birch Run Speedway in Michigan last month paid $10,000-to-win with the Snowflake 100 at 5 Flags Speedway paid $7,000-to-win. Bubba Pollard won both of those races.
Nagy told Short Track Scene last month during the NASCAR Pinty’s Series Rankin Construction 200 that the idea was born from the ownership group wanting to attract the top short track drivers in the United States to do battle with the local Canadian stars. Nagy specifically cited wanting to attract the likes of Pollard and Casey Roderick with a handful of Pinty’s Series stars also expressing interest in acquiring a seat for such a multinational showdown.
“We first floated this race during the PRI (trade) show over the winter and drivers were overwhelmed by the idea,” Nagy said. “We want this to be as big as any other short track race in North America.”
The latest update from the track includes the announcement that the first 40 entries received will be guaranteed a working spot on pit road at the state-of-the-art track located in Hagersville, Ontario, Canada. The race will not feature live pit stops but will instead have breaks. The exact format and structure for the 200-lap event will be released in the coming weeks.
Jukasa is the former Cayuga Motor Speedway, which was closed in 2010, but purchased by the current management in 2016. The track was repaved and completely upgraded for events like concerts, the NASCAR Pinty’s Series and the Canadian Short Track Nationals. The350 acre facility can also accommodate nearly 800 campsites with many offering services to campers.

The weekend will open on Saturday September 1 with the APC Late Model Series and Ontario Outlaw Super Late Models. Sunday September 2 will be the $50,000-to-win Pro Late Model race and 50-lap Super Stock $5,000-to-win invitational.
