New River All American Speedway is closing its doors, effective immediately.
The closure comes just days after the track held its third race of the 2025 season.
“It’s been a wild ride,” Speedway management said in a statement posted on Facebook. “Memories & friendships made that we will never forget. Over the last several weeks & months we’ve had many discussions about the future of New River. Yesterday, we made the tough decision to close the doors. For those of you who supported New River, thank you will never be enough.”
Owned by Ronnie Humphrey, the 4/10 mile asphalt quad-oval first opened in 1999 under the name Coastal Plains Speedway. The track closed in 2015, but made a brief return in 2018 before being closed again. The last race was in October for a memorial to Bobby Watson, who opened Carteret County Speedway, and passed away from heart problems shortly after Hurricane Florence damaged Carteret and caused the track to close for repairs briefly. That would be the last race until 2021.
In 2021, it reopened after COVID restrictions were loosened. That summer, Anthony and Tonya Goodyear leased the track from Humphrey. It was rebranded to Goodyear All American Speedway, then to New River All American Speedway. In 2023 and 2024, the track was NASCAR sanctioned. This year, the track dropped the NASCAR sanctioning.
The track was supposed to run weekly divisions in addition to the tour series scheduled. However, several weekly race weekends have been canceled this year up to this point. The closure was announced on May 28 on the track’s Facebook Page.

The future of the track itself is also unknown. Coastal Plains Dragway, which is on the same property, will remain open. It is currently unknown if Humphrey plans to run the speedway or if someone else may lease it to host events.
The SMART Modified Tour was scheduled to go to the speedway on August 29, as part of the series “Beach Trip” and have a double-header, racing at Carteret on August 30. It is unknown if the race date will be rescheduled to a different date or canceled altogether.
Its first recorded race was in 1999 for the NASCAR Goody’s Dash Series, a race won by Jimmy Britts. The speedway has hosted the USAR Pro Cup, UARA STARS Late Model, NASCAR Slim Jim All Pro Series, and most recently the CARS Tour and SMART Modified Tour.
Some notable names that competed at the facility include Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Ryan Newman, Ryan Blaney, Josh Berry, Frank Kimmel, Jeremy Mayfield, as well as many other notable Late Model and Modified names.
Connor Hall won the first CARS Late Model Stock Tour race at the speedway in 2022, as well as the most recent CARS Tour race on March 1 of this year. Jade Avedisian won the CARS Pro Late Model Tour race that night, becoming the first female driver to win at the speedway and in the Tour.
