Jake Finch and Ronnie Sanders Racing have been unstoppable so far this spring, whether it be in Show Me The Money series competition at Montgomery Motor Speedway or elsewhere.
With Finch’s victory in the Spring Explosion 100 on Saturday, the Lynn Haven, Fl. native has scored five Pro Late Model victories in as many attempts, dating back to the 62nd Annual Alabama 200 at Montgomery back in March. Since then, Finch has scored victories at South Alabama Speedway, Cordele Motor Speedway, and Five Flags Speedway before returning to his winning ways at Montgomery.
Finch made things look easy en route to his Spring Explosion 100 victory, topping all practice sessions, scoring the fastest time in qualifying, pulling position number one in the redraw, and leading every lap on his way to victory lane.
“It’s just a testament to everybody at Ronnie Sanders Racing,” said Finch in victory lane. “I have a really good race car and I just did my job, I’m super excited. Five straight is a pretty cool feat. Hopefully, we’ll continue to do the stuff that we’ve been doing. We’ve got Mobile next weekend, so we’ll see how it goes.”
The Pro Late Model storylines didn’t end with Finch’s dominant performance, as second place finisher Steven Chunn scored an enthusiastic second-place finish on Saturday. The Tennessee driver started mid-pack but methodically worked his way up to the runner-up spot, scoring his career best finish in Show Me The Money series competition.
“I’m so blessed to be able to come out here and drive this thing. We’ve still got to find something for [Finch], but we’re getting there, and I’m happy with it. I’ll take it,” said Chunn post-race. “I took a break from racing. I reset myself, reset my mind, and came at it with a different attitude. I want to give a shout out to Lenny at DLP. We went and talked to him, and he taught us a bunch, and it helped a lot, and it showed. I think those two put together, we kind of just are starting to click away.”
Third-place finisher Presley Johnson improved by one spot from his fourth-place result at the Alabama 200 to score his first podium of the season at Montgomery. With the consistent start to the year, Johnson looks to be one of the top contenders for the 2026 Show Me The Money title chase.
“I don’t really know what to say,” Johnson said post-race. “We struggled last year, I sort of got in over my head, I’ll admit it. I was just a Pro Truck, Saturday Night guy, a Huntsville Speedway guy. I didn’t really have any business doing this. We struggled all last year. We’re finally heading in the right direction. We are tickled to death.”
Young racer Bowen Mayhue finished just one spot shy of the podium in fourth, with veteran racer John Wilkinson coming home in fifth position.
