Ty Majeski showed why he’s one of the most renowned late model drivers in the country after taking the lead late and never looking back in the Money in the Bank 150 at Berlin, finally winning one of the races that escaped him multiple times before. “This one coming across the line, I haven’t felt this way in a while”, Majeski said. “This is a tough race track, forces you to step outside of your comfort zone from a race car standpoint and as a driver. I love the challenge and the discipline it takes to get around here.”
“It took us five tries, but we finally conquered it tonight.”
Majeski’s chances entering were already favorable with a win in the Rattler 250 at South Alabama, but had a tall task ahead of him with previous Money in the Bank and Battle at Berlin winners going against him.
Carson Hocevar and Brian Campbell would be the early favorites to win, stretching their gap on the field relatively easily, while Majeski had work to do after starting the feature in ninth. A pair of cautions would come out within the first 60 laps, then stopped due to weather for just under the next 3 hours. Once the red was lifted and racing resumed, Majeski was on the hunt.
Majeski would pit with Hocevar after a caution just under 70 laps to go, and mount a charge to the front on the restart. Majeski would pass both Hocevar and Andrew Scheid battling for 2nd with just under 50 laps left, then Hocevar would hit a bump in turn 3, ultimately spinning Scheid into turn 4. Scheid would confront Hocevar after the race and exchange words on the incident.
While the final laps ticked away, Majeski showed more speed as the tires were falling off and would drive away from Brian Campbell. Ty would expand on this topic: “We’ve been having tire issues all weekend with our right fronts coming apart. We weren’t good that first part of the race in the daytime. Once we put right sides on, the sun went down, and my right front held up a lot better. We were able to show the race car we had. We stayed the course.”
Brian Campbell had an exceptional and consistent performance throughout, but came up just short to Majeski. He expressed positive thoughts on his second-place result: “Messing around with Carson [Hocevar] there was fun. I got to talk to him at the rain break, and it was pretty good,” Campbell stated. “Second place to Ty [Majeski] and Ty does this for a living, so we’re OK. Car was good, car was in one piece. We could go back and make it faster. We don’t have to fix anything, so yeah, pretty happy.”
