UARA adds new Super Late Model race at South Alabama

In the aftermath of the Cordele Motor Speedway split with Ricky Brooks, the UARA Super Late Model sanctioning body has replaced one of its lost dates at the Georgia bullring with a new event at South Alabama Speedway.

UARA announced the inaugural Frank Grill Memorial 112 at the Kinston, Alabama short track for Saturday, September 20, 2025. This race is the replacement for a Cordele Super Fest race that was scheduled for October 4.

Cordele will proceed as planned with Super Fest and the World Crown 300. (Edit: A previous version of this story incorrectly stated that Cordele’s SLM schedule was still TBD)

“Frankie’s accomplishments and contributions to short track racing are immeasurable and this event is long overdue,” Brooks said of the longtime racer and car builder from nearby Hayden, Alabama. “We can’t thank the Grill family enough for allowing us to do this and we can’t think of a better place for it to happen than at South Alabama Speedway.”

As a car builder, Grill first started working at Neil Bonnett Race Cars, which morphed into Grand American Race Cars. The latter was a dominant force in the discipline at the turn of the decade with numerous victories in the south with the likes of Chase Elliott, Bubba Pollard, Freddie Fryar, Bobby Gill, Jody Ridley, Ronnie Sanders and Butch Lindley.

GARC won 11 Snowball Derby races, two coming in the house cars with son Augie Grill behind the wheel.

“Our family is honored to have this race memorializing our dad and can’t thank Ricky and the Dykes family enough for making it possible,” Augie Grill said. “Of course, this race is going to be 112 laps. That was my number when we raced together and we won a lot of races with 112 on the door. To have it at South Alabama Speedway could not be more fitting.”
