Southern Super Series, CRA Teams Up for New March Event in Cordele

Watermelon Capital Speedway will get a second Super Late Model weekend after all.

Following the cancellation of Speedfest 2021, the Southern Super Series and Champion Racing Association have joined forces with speedway operator Wayne Lyle for a new event that will take place this March.

The Southern Super Series will host a $10,000-to-win, 150 lap race alongside a $4,000-to-win 100 lap non-points CRA JEGS Pro Late Model Tour exhibition. Both of these races will run on Saturday, Mar. 27, along with several support division races.

Speedfest was scheduled for Jan. 22-23 was first relocated to Showtime Speedway in Florida due to COVID-19 numbers in Georgia and eventually outright canceled due to low Pro Late Model car counts for the Florida speedway.

“While we were extremely disappointed with the fate of this year’s CRA SpeedFest 2021, we’re excited to come back with the Georgia Spring Nationals in March. We have been discussing a second Southern Super Series date for a couple of years, and the time seemed right”, stated track GM Ben Sumner. “And to have CRA bring their JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour in for the Pro Late Model portion makes for a big day of racing that fans will not want to miss”.

The Super Late Model portion of the event will be tied into the Georgia Summer Nationals, when the Southern Super Series returns on August 14th. PFC Brakes will be sponsoring a $2,000 cash bonus, which will be paid to the driver with best two race average finish.

The Southern Super Series schedule begins on Mar. 12-14 with the Rattler 250 weekend at South Alabama Speedway and will continue two weeks later at Watermelon Capital Speedway.

“It’s the biggest March in Series history, that’s for sure,” Southern Super Series operator Tim Bryant said. “Opening with The Rattler 250 at South Alabama Speedway, and then heading to Cordele two weeks later gets us off to a fantastic start to the 2021 season. Plus, having our event paired up with the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour makes perfect sense. Our officials work well together so we can help each other make the events as seamless as possible.”

Complete scheduling for this event will be available in the coming days.
