In many ways, the Rattler 250 at South Alabama Speedway on March 14 is the signifier that short track racing season is back underway — and it has an entry list to reflect it.
Many of the biggest names in Super Late Model racing are making their way south this weekend, with a handful of the most northern reaches of the country still buried in snow. As a result, the 26-car preliminary entry list features champions and contenders from all corners of the continent.
The Rattler is the season-opener for the most expansive schedule in Southern Super Series history, too.
Seeking a record fourth victory in the event, Snowball Derby winner Ty Majeski is the headline entrant, alongside two-time winner and NASCAR Truck Series regular Grant Enfinger. Previous race winners Bubba Pollard, Stephen Nasse and Casey Roderick have also filed entries.
Defending CRA Triple Crown winner Carson Hocevar will also take time off his Truck Series schedule in search of another marquee victory with VanDoorn Racing Development. Derek Griffith will make the trip from New Hampshire after winning his second consecutive World Series of Asphalt championship last month at New Smyrna Speedway.
Southern Super Series regular Jeremy Pate headlines a Florida contingent that includes Daniel Dye, Michael Hinde and Kyle Bryant.
The weekend includes a practice day on Friday, local racing and the Baby Rattler Pro Late Model 100 on Saturday night and the Super Late Model main event on Sunday afternoon. The event will air live on Speed51.com. It is available at no additional cost for premium subscribers with a single-event PPV option also available at $24.99.
