Both the Southern Super Series and the road to the Snowball Derby begins in earnest on Friday night with the Rubber & Specialty 125 at Five Flags Speedway.
In addition to being the third race of the SSS season, the event is also the first of the four-race Blizzard Series that comprises the pathway to December’s Snowball Derby. While the races are good tune-ups for the Super Bowl of Short Track racing, both the track champion and the Southern Super Series receive automatic berths into the field.
That’s important because upwards of 70 cars are expected to qualify for the big winter showdown.
The first two races of the Southern Super season were the prestigious Rattler 250 at South Alabama Speedway and the North South Showdown at Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville. So this race could provide a barometer to prove who plans on chasing the championship this season.
Green flag for the event’s festivities is scheduled for 8 p.m. CT. The Super Late Models are scheduled to race third on the card.
The event can be viewed on a Pay-Per-View basis on Speed51.com. The link to do so can be found HERE.
