One of the leading Kulwicki Driver Development drivers will pay homage to its namesake during the Throwback 276 next month at Hickory Motor Speedway.
Molly Helmuth has partnered with Graphix Solution to honor Alan Kuwicki with a Super Late Model paint scheme during the second-ever CARS Tour Throwback 276 at the Birthplace of the NASCAR Stars on August 3 and 4. The scheme pays tribute to NASCAR’s ultimate underdog with the paint scheme he ran during the 1989 NASCAR Winston Cup Series season.
As a driver-owner, he scored six poles and finished 14th in the championship standings with Paul Andrews on the pit box. The duo eventually won the Cup Series championship in 1992, before the driver’s untimely death in a 1993 plane crash just before the Cup race at Bristol Motor Speedway.
For Helmuth, the Kulwicki connection made her throwback idea an obvious one.
“Being a part of the Kulwicki Driver Development Program this year, it was apparent that honoring Alan Kulwicki at the CARS Tour throwback event would be meaningful to me,” Helmuth said. “Alan had many different designs over his career, however; I knew that the 1989 Zerex scheme was the one I truly wanted to represent. I am incredibly grateful that Stephen with Graphix Solutions wanted to partner with Molly Helmuth Racing to make this all possible.”

According to Graphix Solution owner Stephen Dunn, partnering with the CARS Tour and Helmuth to make the Throwback 276 a success and honoring Kuwicki is the perfect fit for this race.
“Our Graphix Solution team was beyond excited in working with Molly Helmuth for Throwback 276 weekend,” Dunn said. “With Molly being part of the Kulwicki Driver Development Program, along with Alan’s upcoming induction into the NASCAR Hall of Fame, it was a no brainer for us to create a throwback scheme to honor Alan and his legacy.
“Just think how cool it would be for Molly to wheel the #7 into Victory Lane and complete a famed Polish Victory Lap to honor Alan at Hickory. We can’t thank the CARS Tour enough for allowing us to partner with Molly for this event.”
In addition to Hut Strickin, who will be honored by his son Taylor with a throwback scheme, Bobby Allison, Donnie Allison, Ron Hornaday Jr., Randy LaJoie and Robert Pressley will be on-hand to sign autographs and take part in a Q&A session before the race.
As is the case with all CARS Tour races, the Throwback 276 can be viewed live with a CARSTour.TV subscription package. A condensed version of the race will also air on MAVTV on September 6 at 7 p.m. and 10 p.m.
