Kern County Winter Showdown rescheduled for March

The new date does not currently have a listed purse payout …

The Winter Showdown at Kern County Raceway Park in Southern California will now be a points-paying race on the SRL Southwest Tour schedule with a new date on Saturday, March 21.

When the new $25,000-to-win Sunrise Ford All-Star Showdown presented by West Coast Stock Car Hall of Fame race was announced for Irwindale Speedway on February 1, it looked like a de facto replacement race for the Winter Showdown.

Even with the new date, the Winter Showdown does not currently have a listed purse or winner’s prize.

“We kick off 2020 with the $25,000 to win All-Star Showdown at Irwindale Speedway on February 1st in sunny Southern California,” stated the SRL’s Larry Collins in a press release detailing the event. “Then we come back in March with the Winter Showdown at Kern County Raceway, that’s a big way to start our 20th season.”

Both the All-Star Showdown and Winter Showdown will be two day shows, with practice and tech inspection on Friday, qualifying and racing on Saturday.

“Our approach to the Winter Showdown has always been to build a national event,” stated Collins. “The race has been nationally televised each year and the Showdown has drawn the top Super Late Model teams from around the nation.”

Winners of the race in its previous incarnation include two-time winner Bubba Pollard (2015 & 2016), four-time SPEARS Southwest Tour Series champion Derek Thorn (2017), NASCAR Cup Series Champion Kyle Busch (2018) and last year’s winner, four-time Mid-West Tour champion, Ty Majeski (2019).

“We have a tremendous amount of appreciation for all the teams and fans who have been part of making the Winter Showdown one of the nation’s top short track events, we’re proud to host this great event each year and are looking forward to March 21st, 2020,” Collins said.

Additional details will be revealed in the coming months.
