One of the top Canadians in both a Stock Car and on dirt is returning home to race in the NASCAR Pinty’s Series in 2020.

NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series championship contender Stewart Friesen will pilot the No. 24 car for Scott Steckly’s 22 Racing in the Canadian national stock car tour when it makes its dirt debut on August 18 at Ohsweken Speedway in Ohsweken, Ontario.

Friesen most recently finished fourth in the Truck Series championship, making his first final four appearance in November at Homestead-Miami Speedway to culminate a season in which he captured his first two victories — including one on the dirt at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio.

That combined with his Niagara Region, Ontario heritage, made Friesen a perfect crossover candidate from NASCAR national touring to the first Pinty’s Series event on dirt.

“I am very excited to be coming back to Ohsweken,” Friesen said in a press release. “When I saw this race come up on their schedule, I immediately wanted to race in it.  We can also bring our experience from Eldora to the 22 Racing team.  I look forward to working with Scott and his group and representing Qwick Wick & Mister Transmission.”

Frisen is also a veteran of over 900 dirt races in his career. When not racing in the third-tier stock car tour, Friesen is a regular in the Northeast Dirt Modified racing scene and also has a World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series victory at Ohsweken.

The 36-year-old will partner with two Canadian brands in his effort at The Big O in Qwick Wick Fire Starters and Mister Transmission.

Steckly, a four-time champion as a driver, knows he’s got a proven winner behind the wheel for the inaugural dirt race.

“Everyone at 22 Racing is extremely excited to have Stewart in the No. 24 car at Ohsweken for the inaugural NASCAR Pinty’s Series dirt race,” Steckly said. “He brings a wealth of knowledge with him and he is a great competitor and a welcome addition to our driver roster for this event.

“Qwick Wick returning to our team is also huge for us as we had a blast at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park with them last year (with Chandler Smith) handing out samples and getting to know them. We are also thrilled to welcome Mister Transmission to our partner group. We met a few of their franchisees a couple of years ago at Jukasa and they were an enthusiastic group.”

Ohsweken Speedway is a 3/8ths mile dirt track located in the town of Ohsweken, southeast of Brantford, Ontario. The inaugural NASCAR Pinty’s Series dirt event will take place on Tuesday August 18, 2020.
