Raphael Lessard swept the season opening NASCAR Pinty’s Series doubleheader at Innisfil, Ontario on Sunday night and left with a significant championship lead as a result.
However, Lessard hadn’t planned to run the full schedule this season and wasn’t even supposed to be at the Sunset Speedway opener over the weekend. Lessard only landed in the Wight Motorsports No. 80 when expected driver Donald Theetge broke two knuckles in his right hand and needed a replacement.
Lessard will have the chance to keep the momentum rolling as Wight Motorsports added le Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières to their schedule together on Sunday August 15.
This is the second time Lessard will race GP3R in the NASCAR Pinty’s Series. The first was in 2019, where he finished seventh in the event racing for Dumoulin Competition. Lessard has won three out of his four starts in the NASCAR Pinty’s Series.
In the NASCAR Camping World Truck, Lessard has accumulated some impressive finishes on road courses as well. He finished tenth at Mosport in 2019. During GP3R, Lessard will also race in the Chevrolet Urban Challenge in a Dirt Modified on Saturday August 14.
