If there is any driver in the paddock who knows Riverside International Speedway the best, it would be local favorite Donald Chisholm.
After being edged out by Donald Theetge in practice, Chisholm made a statement scoring the pole for the the Bumper to Bumper 300.
Chisholm’s No. 89 NOVA Construction/ Keltic Ford Ford set a time of 14.587 seconds (82.409mph) around the third mile oval to claim his third career pole in the NASCAR Pinty’s Series. The Antigonish, N.S. driver has one career win at Riverside under his belt, a win from the pole in 2014.
“I think this might be the first time we’ve ever qualified,” Chisolm said. “It seems like we get rained out every year and we start in the back on points. We had some good laps there. I’m proud of the guys for their hard work.”
Riding a wave of momentum following back to back top-10s, Jason Hathaway maintained momentum in qualifying. The No. 3 Kubota Canada/ Choko Chevrolet set a time of 14.587/83.183 and will line up second in tonight’s race.
“We had a really good car in practice and was fast in qualifying too,” Hathaway said. “We were on the pole for a lot of it and then Donald knocked me off. It’s all good. It’s good to be up here though and we’re ready to get after it.”
Points leader Andrew Ranger will start third with a time of 14.616/82.020. Ranger has one win at Riverside coming back in 2009, the No.27 MOPAR Dodges aims to keep points rival Kevin Lacroix in his rear-view mirror. D.J. Kennington and Lacroix completed the top-5.
The green flag for the Bumper to Bumper 300 at Riverside International Speedway is set to drop at 7:45 p.m. It will air live on FansChoice.TV in the United States and the TSN app in Canada.
