Tyler Dippel Earns First K&N East Victory in Second Start

Mobile, Ala. :: Many of the best drivers in NASCAR history have had to make the transition from dirt to asphalt before moving up the ladder and Tyler Dippel appears to be on a similar path to success.

Making just his second career start, Dippel won the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race at Mobile International Speedway on Sunday, and did so in dominating fashion. Dippel first took the lead on Lap 30 and never looked back, leading the final 120 laps, despite several cautions that kept the field constantly on his back bumper.

In fact, Dippel had to fend off Spencer Davis and Jesse Little on two different restarts within the final 10 laps, but did so with ease. He cited the car prepared for him by HScott Motorsports with Justin Marks as the difference on Sunday at the fast Alabama half-mile.

“They just told me that my car was rolling the bottom better and had a lot more driver off,” Dipple said in Victory Lane. “It was just really consistent. I never spun the tires once, and I was able to keep the car underneath me the whole time.

“We unloaded fast last week for the test and we just kept wrenching on it today during practice. It was just a really good race car.”

Davis was the runner-up for the second-consecutive event and took the points lead away from New Smyrna winner Todd Gilliland, whom was not entered in the event. Even though he again came up just short, Davis was pleased with speed he and Ranier Racing with MDM has shown through the first two events.

“Well, we won the pole and who doesn’t like starting on the pole,” Davis said. “Our strategy played out well. We came up one position short, and while that’s tough, you have to feel good about our speed. We have a car that we can actually build on.”

Of note, Dominique Van Wieringen set two K&N records in the Mobile 150 before a Lap 146 spin dropped her to 20th by the finish. A second-place qualifying effort broke her own record for a female, and after she took the lead from Davis on the green flag, the former NEMCO Motorsports prospect led the first 29 laps.

According to NASCAR, no female driver had led more than four laps in a K&N race in the 30-year history of the tour. The NASCAR K&N Pro Series East will return to action with the Kevin Whitaker Chevrolet 150 on March 26 at Greenville-Pickens Speedway.
