Keith Rocco Wins Sunoco Modified Thriller at Icebreaker

Jeff Brown/STS

Add another spectacular win to a career of many for Keith Rocco.

In a duel with Mike Christopher Jr, it was Rocco who came out on top in the Icebreaker SK Modified feature at Thompson Saturday afternoon.

Troy Talman was second, followed by Todd Owen, Christopher, and Danny Cates. Jonathan Puleo, John Lowinski-Loh, Richard Williams, Jason Sundeen and Paul LaPlante rounded out the top-10.

Rocco and Christopher swapped the lead back and forth numerous times, with the winning pass coming with two laps to go. Rocco dove under Christopher in turn three, and the two made contact. Christopher lost his momentum, and Rocco cruised on to the victory.

“That was awesome,” Rocco said. “Just got crossing back and forth that last shot in three and four there. I expected him to lift and cross me back, but he stayed out there and we made a little contact.”

Talman started on the pole.

A spin by Christian Turrisi on lap 10 bunched the field back up, allowing Rocco to take the lead. The second yellow came out when Joe Allegro Jr. stopped on the track

Rocco will also compete in tonight’s 125-lap Outlaw Open Modified feature as well, where he’ll look to double up on Modified wins on Icebreaker weekend.
