Justin Bonsignore earns top spot at Wall Stadium

Defending NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion Justin Bonsignore posted the fastest time in qualifying on Saturday.

Bonsignore drove the No. 51 Phoenix Communications Inc. Chevrolet to the top spot ahead of the Jersey Shore 150 at Wall Stadium Speedway — the fifth race of the season.

Bonsignore’s fast lap of 12.287 seconds (96.688 mph) earned him his 12th career pole and second of the season. Much like many of the other competitors, it will be Bonsignore’s first Whelen Modified Tour start at the third-mile. The last visit for the series was in 2007 — a race won by home town favorite Jimmy Blewett.

Andrew Krause, a home town favorite who paced the only practice of the day, qualified second with a time of 12.357 seconds (96.140 mph). Former series champion and South Boston Speedway winner Ron Silk rounded out the podium in third.

Rob Summers was fourth, followed by Timmy Solomito.

Six through 10 went to Doug Coby, Tommy Catalano, Patrick Emerling, Danny Bohn and Matt Swanson.

The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour returns to the track for the Jersey Shore 150 at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday night. The fifth race of the season takes the green flag live on FansChoice.TV.
