Peyton Sellers facing adversity at Martinsville

Sellers to start at rear of heat race following post-qualifying tech disqualification

Corey Latham | STS

MARTINSVILLE, VA – Peyton Sellers will have to come from the rear of the field in his heat race if he is going to transfer to the feature event and pick up his second Ridgeway grandfather clock.

Following post-qualifying technical inspection on Friday night, Sellers’ time was disallowed due to an ‘oversight’ with the rear end alignment.

“It was just a discrepancy on the way we had checked our rear end at the shop versus the way they checked it here,” Sellers told Short Track Scene.  “It was just a little different.  An oversight, something we should now check how they check it here but, you know, the other cars were right, we were wrong, so we were just pushing it too close.”

Sellers, who had the 11th fastest time in qualifying, reiterated that he did not believe it was a performance advantage.

“Don’t really think it’s a performance advantage no more than it was,” Sellers continued.  “We qualified 11th so it wasn’t like it was helping us so much, but at the end of the day, we just gotta start last in the heat race and get by a few of them.  We’ll see how it goes.  As long as we have a little luck and don’t tear up a lot of cars, I think we’ll be fine.”

Sellers won the ValleyStar Credit Union in 2022.  His Ridgeway grandfather clock sits at Clarence’s Steakhouse, and he is hoping to win a second time and take one home for himself.

“We’re looking forward to it,” Sellers said.  Just got to get in the show first and foremost and then we’ll have a good car to race.”

Sellers will start from the 17th position in the third heat race.  The ValleyStar Credit Union 300 heat races will go green at 3pm.
