Peyton Sellers won his third Triple Crown in his home state but it wasn’t necessary the accolade he craved most.
The ValleyStar 300 was chaotic, and Sellers had his fair share of involvement including a duel with Jr. Motorsports driver Josh Berry that resulted in contact that knocked Berry out of contention after a dominant race.
Sellers finished sixth, but as disappointed in that placement as he was, he did best Philip Morris for the Triple Crown who finished 15th.
The Triple Crown is the best average finish at three races, the ValleyStar 300 at Martinsville, the Thunder Road Harley-Davidson 200 at South Boston Speedway and the Hampton Heat at Langley Speedway.
“It’s a real honor for me, there are a lot of good racers that came from Virginia, I just hope to honor that legacy,” said Sellers. “This is a home track for us.”
He said that beating Philip Morris for the $10,000 prize was also an honor.
When asked what else is on his bucket list besides securing a trifecta of crowns, Philip Morris pointed at the stage before him, next to where ValleyStar 300 winner CE Falk stood.
“That clock,” he said of the Martinsville grandfather clock.
