New River alters Battle of the Stars format for third renewal

Jacksonville track eliminates stages, competition cautions for Late Model races

The southeast region’s most abrasive track is bringing their fall highlight back with a format that is unconventional by modern standards.

The Late Model Stock Car portion of the Battle of the Stars at New River All American Speedway, formerly Coastal Plains Raceway, will not be split into stages or have green flag racing interruipted by competition cautions.  Instead, it will be 131 green flag laps with the only interruptions being for organic cautions.  New River is known for its gritty surface which maximizes tire degradation, and the change to a heads up race will place even more emphasis on strategy.

In addition to the format change for the Late Model Stock Car portion of the race, New River All American Speedway has also added Pro Late Models to this year’s event.  Like the Late Models, the 100 lap Pro Late Model race also will be run straight up.

“We wanted to mix things up to make this year’s Battle of the Stars the biggest one yet,” track operator Anthony Goodyear said.  “Running the races straight up will change how drivers approach this race in terms of managing their tires and deciding when to race hard.  We’ve also had a lot of requests to run Pro Late Models so we’ve added them to this event as well.”

New River’s Battle of the Stars has also been expanded with three Prelims being held prior to the Pro Late Models and Late Model Stocks on Saturday, November 16, 2024.  Additionally, a Friday night program has been added featuring Street Stocks, Legends, Champ Karts, Rumblers, and Bandoleros.

Pre-race ceremonies on November 16 will also feature the debut of the Juice Box division at the track.
