MARTINSVILLE, VA – Bobby McCarty was fastest in qualifying on Friday night at Martinsville Speedway and will lead the first heat race to the green flag.
McCarty’s 19.748 was a new track record for the Late Model Stock Cars at Martinsville Speedway. He beat out Chase Burrow, who also eclipsed the old track record and Mike Looney for the pole.
“Really good effort by my Nelson Motorsports guys,” McCarty told Short Track Scene. “We’ve struggled this year and to be able to do this really means a lot to us. It’s a shot in the arm. We needed it. Just try to play it smart tomorrow, try to stay out front, stay away from the crazy stuff you don’t want to be a part of, and we’ll see how it goes.”
Sam Yarbrough and Andrew Grady had been fourth and fifth, but their times were disallowed following post-qualifying technical inspection, along with 10 other drivers.
“We had some issues with 12 cars and they did not conform to the rules so they were put to the rear of the qualifying order,” Carroll said. “The heat races will be set with those cars to the rear of the qualifying order.”
Carroll said the times were disallowed for various reasons, including wheel spacers, carburetors, and squirters. He did not elaborate any further.
The 10 other cars who had their times disallowed were Conner Jones, Dylan Ward, Jonathan Shafer, Mason Diaz, Connor Hall, Jason York, Parker Eatmon, Davey Callihan, Eddie Johnson, and Jamie York.
After the revisions following tech, the top-10 qualifiers were McCarty, Burrow, Looney, Daniel Silvestri, Corey Heim, Doug Barnes, Jr., Stacy Puryear, Landon Pembleton, Brenden Queen, and Jacob Borst.
McCarty, Burrow, Looney, and Silvestri will lead their respective heat races to the green flag on Saturday afternoon.
