Layne Riggs injured in off-weekend dirt bike incident

Layne Riggs’ pursuit of the CARS Tour championship ended before it could truly begin.

The 15-year-old second generation driver broke his right collarbone during a motorbike incident over the weekend. As a result, the son of NASCAR veteran Scott Riggs will have to miss Saturday night’s Solid Rock Carriers 123.

“Was trying to have a little fun on my off weekend before our next upcoming races,” Riggs said in a Facebook post.  “Ended up crashing on my dirt bike and broke my right collarbone in half. Surgery is scheduled to happen tomorrow and hopeful to have a speedy recovery. Sorry to everyone that has been and would have been supporting me through the upcoming races. I’m already itching to get back in a car as soon as possible.”

Riggs is the reigning CARS Late Model Stock championship runner-up and has two wins at Dominion and Orange County. He entered the weekend 11th in the standings and 25 points behind leader Bobby McCarty
