Florence Motor Speedway will break the ice on a new season in Late Model Stock Car racing with their 125-lap race, aptly named the Icebreaker, on Saturday and will have plenty of star power to do so.

27 Late Model Stock Car Drivers have filed entries in advance of Saturday’s race, which has been pushed up to an earlier start time due to the threat of rain .  Among the drivers who are set to contest the Icebreaker are Josh Berry, Matt Cox, Mark Wertz, Chad McCumbee, Ryan Millington, Justin Carroll, and Justin Johnson.

The Icebreaker will also see Jonathan Shafer’s debut with Lee Pulliam Performance.

Ryan Glenski, who is a former winner at Florence Motor Speedway, Myrtle Beach Speedway, and Franklin County Speedway, enters the race as a driver who could play the role of spoiler against a field of heavyweights.  Glenski has previously won in the Myrtle Beach 250.

Jamie Weatherford is also a former winner of the Myrtle Beach 250 and has his sights set on victory on Saturday.  Brandon Clements, who is a former champion at Carteret County Speedway and Coastal Plains Raceway Park and a multi-time race winner at Southern National Motorsports Park last year, also enters the event as a driver who could flip the script on the heavy-hitters. David Roberts, a former NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series South Carolina state champion, will also contest the Icebreaker, while other potential spoilers include Riley Gentry, Heath Causey, R.A. Brown, and Justin Hicks – among others.

Reigning Icebreaker winner Sam Yarbrough is not among the drivers on the pre-entry list, though that does not mean he will not race.  Drivers are still eligible to compete if they do not file a pre-entry for the race.

Meanwhile, Cody LeBlanc, A.J. Sanders, and Robert Strimska headline a stacked field that will race in the Carolina Mini-Stock Challenge feature race, which will be contested immediately following the Late Model Stock Car 125 lapper.  LeBlanc, who is making the trip from New Hampshire, was victorious in the 4-Cylinder Nationals at Carteret County Speedway last fall and backed that up with a win in the Mini-Stock feature at the New Year’s Bash at Dillon Motor Speedway last month.

Robert Tyler, who used to be a regular in the Solid Rock Carriers CARS Tour, and Jody Measamer are among the headliners in the Super Truck feature that also features names such as Strom Altman, a former Myrtle Beach regular, and Anthony Goodyear, a newcomer to Super Truck racing.

Street Stocks are also on the schedule for Saturday’s Icebreaker.  All the action at Florence Motor Speedway will kick off at 12:30pm.  The Icebreaker was previously held at Myrtle Beach Speedway before the historic half-mile track ceased operations and shut down last summer.  In the five years the event was staged at Myrtle Beach Speedway, the Icebreaker has never had a repeat winner.  Previous winners are: Tommy Lemons, Jr. (2016), Lee Pulliam (2017), Timothy Peters (2018), Ty Gibbs (2019), and Sam Yarbrough (2020).

The full list of pre-entered drivers, updated as of Wednesday, can be seen below.
