Davey Callihan picked up his first NASCAR Advanced Auto Parts Weekly Series Division I victory since 2012 at Dominion Raceway on Saturday night – his first in a Late Model Stock Car at the Thornburg, Virginia complex.
Callihan’s victory came in the second of two Late Model Duels at Dominion Raceway. After starting fourth, Callihan worked his way methodically up to the second position and battled with race leader John Goin for several circuits, making the race deciding pass for the win with eight laps to go.
“This win is by far the biggest in my Late Model career for many reasons,” Callihan told Short Track Scene. “I’m just your average guy, little money, with a lot of determination and on Saturday, that was enough to get the job done against some of the best, if not the best, in Late Model racing right now. My crew chief, Hippie, did an amazing job giving me what I was asking for and keeping up with the track. I’m just really proud of all my guys that take time to come help me do something I love on the weekends.
“My last win was at Old Dominion in 2012,” Callihan continued. “This win means a lot to me. All the hard work paying off gives you confidence as a driver.”
Callihan hails from Woodford, Virginia and was a regular at Old Dominion Speedway prior to that track’s closure in 2012. When Old Dominion closed, track owner Steve Britt had already planned on building a new track in nearby Spotsylvania County in Virginia – which opened in 2016. In the years between the closure of Old Dominion and the opening of Dominion, Callihan competed in Motocross racing.
“The years between Old Dominion and Dominion, I went back to racing Motocross due to lack of sponsors and funding,” Callihan explained. “It was fun to be back on dirt for a little while but, as they say, with age, get a cage. After a big injury racing on two wheels left me in the hospital for a week, I migrated back to four wheels and worked my way back into the Late Model class.”
Prior to his win on Saturday, Callihan had picked up 10 wins in the Dominion Racer division, which is the name of the track’s Limited Late Model class.
The first race was won by Doug Barnes over Mason Bailey and Grayson Cullather.

Great win for Davey. He is super talented and it showed Saturday night. Lap after lap against John Goin was thrilling and great racing. A nicer person can’t be found as well. Keep up the hard work and determination never give up and you will in life!! Congrats Davey Callihan that’s how its done.
