Chad McCumbee Takes Hampton Heat Pole

A blistering lap from Chad McCumbee in qualifying put him on pole for tonight’s Hampton Heat as he looks to claim a win in the Virginia Triple Crown.

Chad McCumbee does not have many trips to Langley Speedway on his Late Model Stock resume.

His inexperience at the facility did not stop him from earning the pole in tonight’s Hampton Heat after putting down a strong lap of 15.754 in qualifying.

McCumbee said that the pole came as a pleasant surprise and believes that the strength of his car will put him in a great position to claim a win his first Virginia Late Model Triple Crown season.

“I didn’t know what kind of raw speed we were going to have,” McCumbee said. “We’ve shown some in practice and I ended up getting pretty comfortable with the long run speed. Hopefully we can finish things out from the pole tonight.”

McCumbee remains in contention for the Virginia Triple Crown title behind points leader Bobby McCarty following a solid fifth place finish in the Thunder Road Harley-Davidson 200 at South Boston Speedway on July 3.

McCumbee will have to hold off 28 other strong competitors to visit victory lane this evening, which include Josh Berry and defending Hampton Heat winner Brenden Queen.
