CARS Tour Throwback Race gets major boost

One of the signature CARS Tour events is about to get bigger.

Way bigger.

The annual throwback event at Hickory Motor Speedway will now be known as the Throwback Classic presented by FloRacing with a record setting purse alongside it.

The Late Model Stock portion will pay $50,000 to win and $2500 to start while the Pro Late Models will receive $30,000 to win and $1500 to start.

That makes for a combined $200,000 purse.

“This payout is simply incredible for the series, driver, and teams,” said Dale Earnhardt Jr., zMAX CARS Tour co-owner. “Our goal is always to continue to grow the Series by putting as many eyes on it as possible. Our partnership with FloSports allows us to do just that. The Throwback Classic at Hickory has always been a special event for the CARS Tour, but with this announcement it’s now the biggest pavement short track event of the year, period.”

The race is known for its throwback paint schemes, and thanks to its distance from the NASCAR economic system, numbers are allowed to be changed and the wraps are usually identical to what they are paying tribute to.

Matt Weaver is the owner and founder of Short Track Scene. Weaver grew up in the sport, having raced himself before becoming a reporter in college at the University of South Alabama. He also has extensive experience covering NASCAR, IndyCar and Dirt Sprint Cars.
