Super Late Model superstar Bubba Pollard had hoped to enter the Valley Star Credit Union 300 at Martinsville Speedway next weekend and was close to an agreement with Jamie Yelton’s Fat Head Racing to do it.
Instead, Pollard will run the Southern Super Series race at Five Flags Speedway next season in the hopes of locking himself into the Snowball Derby.
It’s an unfortunate schedule conflict because Pollard has eyed the Late Model Stock fall classic for several years. Pollard was drawn to Pensacola because he’s leading the Five Flags Speedway Super Late Model track championship.
That pays $,3000 but perhaps more importantly, carries with it an automatic berth into the Snowball Derby.
Pollard hasn’t lacked for speed in recent years, but he’s keen to avoid a situation where the worst-case scenario happens and he is forced to go to the annual Derby last chance race in December.
So for now, Pollard will have to wait another year before considering trading his Super Late Model in for a Late Model Stock under the brightest stage in the discipline.
